Educational Philosophy:

In all my teaching endeavours I aim for excellence. This has been demonstrated by the high quality, theoretically based program that I have always offered to the children I work with.

My teaching practice is based on seven principles:

1. Individual programs;

2. A safe, supportive, positive and cooperative environment;

3. Education as a life long process to develop rational autonomy;

4. Schools as part of the real world;

5. That learning occurs in different ways and that children have different ways of learning;

6. Learning occurs when learners see a purpose and it is enjoyable; and finally,

7. Egalitarianism in all encounters with children is essential.

These principles underpin all my contacts with children.

More specifically during the time children are in my care I will endeavour to:

1. Develop in each child a desire to explore, experiment, question, write, read, compute, argue logically, enjoy, and be creative.

2. Ensure all children are literate and numerate in basic areas to include spelling, grammar, computation and reading.

3. Develop each child from the particular stage they are at to the next appropriate one and so on.

4. Plan according to individual needs interests and abilities.

5. Provide a wide range of stimulating, challenging and enjoyable experiences in order to develop skills, concepts and attitudes.

6. Create an aesthetically pleasing and motivating environment in which to teach and learn.

7. Foster a partnership in each child's education between the child, parents, teachers, professionals and myself.

8. Develop in each child the following attributes: confidence, resourcefulness, open-mindedness, friendliness, independence, co-operation, productiveness and a love of learning.

9. Keep and maintain accurate working records on each child's progress to enable me to: a) plan learning experiences, b) evaluate and c) report to parents.

10. Develop appropriate life skills in the area of interpersonal relationships and personal relationships.

11. To be egalitarian and equitable in all dealings with children and to promote these values in them, especially gender equity.

12. To develop in children the skills to enable them to use the vast array of computer based resources such as the WWW, email, digital images etc as tools in teaching and learning.

13. Develop high quality relationships with the children I work with and all other professional people who are part of the school community.

My classrooms are always lively, busy, stimulating and interesting places where there is planned and deliberate intervention to ensure children develop.
